United
Electrical, Radio & Machine Workers of America (UE)
Local 1111

Who we are:
UE Local 1111 has represented
production and maintenance workers at the Allen-Bradley Company (now part
of Rockwell Automation) since 1937. Through the years thousands upon thousands
of union sisters & brothers have been able to raise families, buy
homes, put kids through school, and not least, enjoy a measure of dignity
and respect on the job.
Although our contract does
not require Union membership, 98% of the employees in the bargaining unit
voluntarily support the Union with their dues, currently 1.5 hours of
wages per month.
All important decisions are
approved by Membership vote. Meetings are held monthly, on Sundays so
that all shifts may attend. A fourteen member Executive Board customarily
makes recommendations to the assembly, but any member may introduce a
motion from the floor.
The Board is elected annually,
on the Thursday before the November Membership meeting. Officers include
a chief steward on each shift and all seven members of the Bargaining-Grievance
Committee. Details on the Union's structure are contained in the Local's
Constitution.
The UE itself has a proud history
of independence, honesty, and militant action, both in defense of its
members and in the struggle to help others organize. To learn more about
the UE, please visit the National
Union's website.
As of April 1, 2008 there are
about 295 active employees in the bargaining unit, with an additinal 21
members on layoff status.
